Guided Snowshoeing Day Hike in Schächental (Uri)
When the valleys are hidden in the fog, the sun usually shines on the hamlet of Eggberge high above Altdorf. The imposing mountain peaks of the Schächental valley are perfect for a memorable snowshoe day.
This trip is led by Tatjana Probst, mountain leader.
After the first ascent through a small ski resort, we leave the hustle behind and continue our hike towards the Schächental valley peaks. However, we leave these high rocky giants to our left, as our path leads through quiet forests and over smaller but scenic peaks. Along the way, a couple of authentic huts invite us to take a break. Several cable cars lead from the sun terrace back down to the valley floor. This means that the hike can be shortened or extended as desired.

Requirements
To join this event, you need to be a fit hiker. No previous snowshoeing experience needed.
If you are traveling from Zurich by public transport, we recommend you the following:
- Zurich HB 08:35 - 09:52 Flüelen (Talstation Eggberge) (via Zug and Flüelen)
- Brügg (Bürglen UR) (Seilbahn) 15:29 - 16:55 Zurich HB (via Altdorf UR) - depending on the time the event finishes
If you are traveling by car, you can park at Flüelen (Talstation Eggberge) and take the bus back from Bürglen at 15:29.
What you need to bring
Day clothing essentials:
- Winter hiking boots
- Base layers
- Hiking or skiing trousers
- Fleece
- Down jacket
- Waterproof jacket
- Sun hat
- Sunglasses
- Warm hat
- Buff
- Thin gloves
- Thick gloves
Technical gear:
- Hiking backpack (20L)
- Waterproof backpack cover
- Waterproof inner bags or bin bags
- Snowshoes and poles: can be rented out - see "Equipment rental"
F&B:
- Water
- Thermal bottle for tea
- Snacks
- Packed lunch
Pharmacy:
- Sunscreen and lip protector
- Plasters and basic medicine
Equipment rental
You have the possibility to rent the following equipment, directly from the guide:
- Snowshoes and poles: CHF 15
You will receive an email with a form to fill in a few days before the event, where you can inform us about which items you’d like to rent. These can be paid by cash or Twint on the event day.
The price for this event is CHF 80.

- Transport to Flüelen and from Bürglen

Insurance
It is the participant's responsibility to get health and accident insurances that cover mountain rescue, including extreme sports. Becoming a Rega patron is highly recommended (CHF 40 per year only for emergency medical assistance from the air).
